Obituary

Joanna Hazlewood 99, of Shawnee, Oklahoma died Thursday, August 7, 2025. She was born October 24, 1925 in Wales, Tennessee to the late SH and Ina Kimbrough. She married John C Hazlewood in 1954 and had 3 daughters, Mary, Linda and Nancy. Joanna was a long-time member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Shawnee, Oklahoma. She had numerous jobs including teaching sewing for Singer Sewing Company, several department stores creating window displays as well as Wilson Meat Factory, Cains Coffee and Western Electric. She also volunteered serving at the Shawnee voting poles and the Shawnee Fair. She won several ribbons at the fair for her knitting. She also was a member of the Pottawatomie Home Makers Extension and served many years at Falls Creek Youth Camp. She loved reading, hand sewing quilts, canning and was a great cook. Joanna was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Shirley, her husband John, daughter Linda and great granddaughter Rylie. She is survived by two daughters Mary, Nancy and son-in-law Steve Wake as well as 8 grandchildren: Tiffany Patterson, Todd Smoot, Sheila Haskel, Stacey Brummer, Suzanne Crose, Brad Wake, Aaron Wake and Kevin Wake, 15 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren . She will be greatly missed. Funeral Services will be held at 10 am Tuesday, August 12 at Taproot Church, 22 E Dunloup St., Shawnee, Ok. with Steve Wake officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee. In lieu of flowers a contribution can be made to Falls Creeks Youth Camp via Immanuel Baptist Church, 1451 E 45th Street, Shawnee, Ok. Arrangements are under the direction of McElyea & Owens Funeral Group of Shawnee.
