Carol Ann Miller (Ell) (Chiefelk), a resident of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed from this life on December 15, 2025 at the age of 78, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Carol was born on December 12th,1947 in Browning, Montana. Carol was born to Samuel Ell and Eva Aguire Ell. Carol was a proud member of The Blackfeet Nation of Browning, Montana. She was also from the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Dakota Sioux Tribe. Carol grew up with a Catholic upbringing and attended the Little Flower Parish in Browning, Montana. Carol graduated from Flandreau Indian School in South Dakota and spent her summers with her aunt Selena, uncle, and cousins and with her mom and dad. After graduation she moved to California where she would meet her future husband Alan D. Miller. They were married on November 29th, 1967 in San Francisco, California. As a young couple, Carol lived in Oakland and San Francisco, California, and lived on Alcatraz Island during the Native American Occupation of 1969. She would also attend business school. Later as a young couple, she would move with her husband and kids between Montana, New Mexico, California and Oklahoma. Carol finally settled in Oklahoma with her husband and children. Carol would join Snake Creek Baptist Church as a member, after moving to Oklahoma. Carol worked in healthcare and did clerical work at Strother High School, OBU and the Potawatomi Nation. Although Carol supported her husband in his career, she was an independent person with her own qualities. At one time she was at home in Oklahoma taking care of their kids, before she realized her husband was at Wounded Knee. Over the years, she was asked to cook at events, especially making frybread. She could redo the plumbing, paint the entire house, file taxes, beadwork, make moccasins. She even learned to sew Seminole patchwork for her family, to support her husband and kids' ceremonial way of life. Over the years Carol attended church at Snake Creek Baptist, Dustin Baptist, Indian Nations, and Akasvmkv churches. She would camp with her husband and kids at Ceyvha, Greenleaf and Fishpond ceremonial grounds. She later camped at Peachground ceremonial ground with her children and family. Carol also enjoyed going to Pow Wows because it was her traditional background. Carol was well rounded and believed in God and that we did not have to choose religion and to respect the path people chose for spirituality. Carol supported groups such as The Alcatraz Movement, Every Child Matters, The Blackfeet Nation MMIP, and various tribal organizations. She believed in Native American rights and equality.
