Carolyn King Obituary

Carolyn was born on May 5, 1939 in Crescent, Oklahoma to Frank W. Wares and Muriel Faye (Ford) Wares and older brother, Joe Ed Wares.

Throughout her childhood, her family moved frequently due to her father’s work in the oil fields.  They eventually moved to Shawnee where she attended Grove School and Shawnee High School, graduating in 1957.  While at Shawnee High, she met her husband of 66 years, Robert King. She also made friends with a few girls that lasted a lifetime.

In August, 1958, she married Robert.  During this time, Carolyn worked in the cash office at Montgomery Wards until having kids.  In 1971 Carolyn and her family moved to Garland, Texas where she worked as secretary and office manager of her husband’s new utility construction company.  Work and family kept her busy, but she still made time to enjoy her love of flowers and fishing/camping, along with a little needlepoint and crochet on occasion.

By the summer of 1982, Carolyn and her family moved into their underground home outside of Wylie, Texas.  She continued to work at her husband’s company but eventually became involved with quarter horses and started 4K Quarter Horses.

Pets were a big part of Carolyn’s life.  Over the years there were several freshwater and saltwater fish tanks, a canary named Sunshine that she loved to hear sing, a parakeet named Snowball that she taught to talk, and hermit crabs.  There were dogs, cats, and horses too numerous to name, but each one held a special place in her heart. Her horse, The Kilebar Kid, was at the top of the list.

In 2003, her husband retired and the decision was made to move back to Oklahoma.  They found a home & some land in Shawnee & began the process of moving.  By 2005, after the sale of their Wylie home & property, Carolyn was back to living in Oklahoma with Robert full time.

On September 24, 2024, Carolyn was called home to be with her Heavenly Father.  She is survived by her husband Robert, son Dirk, daughter Kristi, sister-in-law Marie Wares; nieces Janet Branscum, Stephanie Tidwell, Vicki Russell and Debbie Cole; nephews Mike Hair, Mark Hair, Randy King and Chris Wares, along with several great nieces and nephews, and her two grand-dogs Graci and Scooter.

The family would like to thank all of the employees of Belfair/Shawnee Memory Care for the care and love they showed to Carolyn over the years.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Samaritan’s Purse (Samaritanspurse.org) to help those who have been affected by the hurricanes.
