Chance McCoy Obituary


Chance David McCoy, a resident of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed away on September 28th, 2022 in Shawnee at the age of 34. Chance was born on April 24, 1988 in Paris, Texas to David William McCoy and Pamela (Fenter) Sands.

Chance grew up in Texas and graduated high school at Richardson, TX.. He married Katy Burghart on March 5, 2011 in Midwest City, Oklahoma and they remained happily married for 11 years, prior to his death. Chance worked for Joe Cooper Auto Dealership as a service advisor. Chance was so gifted and extremely talented with building things and technology. He created many of his own projects. He built watches, computers, he also loved Rocketry and built several model rockets. He loved the outdoors camping and fishing. He enjoyed road trips with his wife on “mini-adventures”.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Theo Lester Fenter, his maternal grandmother Toye Rae Fenter, his paternal grandfather, Bennett Lanier McCoy, and his paternal grandmother, Loyce Evelyn McCoy.

Chance is survived by his wife, Katy McCoy of the Shawnee home; his mother, Pamela Fenter Sands and husband Robert Sands of Pflugerville, TX; his father, David McCoy of Texas; two sisters, Cara McCoy Yamashita and husband Lance and Grace McCoy; a brother, Christopher Joseph Hawk of Texas; two aunts, Patricia Epstein and husband Mark of Pflugerville, TX and Marcia McCoy of Wichita Falls, TX; cousins, Ben Epstein of Playa Del Rey, CA, Seth Epstein of Inglewood, CA, and Joshua Epstein and wife Jessica of Austin, TX; and by other extended family and many good friends.

A memorial service for Chance will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 2:00pm at Living Word Church of Shawnee with Rev. James Walter officiating. Services are under the direction of McElyea & Owens Funeral Group of Shawnee.
