Chris Eugene Neikes, age 70, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, passed away at home on November 13, 2024, following a courageous nine-month struggle with cancer. True to his character, he defied the expectations of medical professionals, demonstrating remarkable stubbornness that all who knew him would have anticipated.
Chris was born on May 21, 1954, in Taylorville, Illinois, to Francis "Gene" and Betty Neikes. Following his education in Coffeen and Hillsboro schools, he enlisted in the United States Army. Upon completing his military service, Chris explored various occupations, including coal mining, offshore fishing, and construction. Eventually, he discovered his true passion in the drywall, painting, texturing, and home refurbishment industry. Renowned for his exceptional work ethic and attention to detail, he adhered to the principle that "a deal is only successful if it benefits both parties."
In 1995, Chris encountered his soulmate, Patty Gregory. The couple exchanged vows on February 20, 2009. Together, they shared a passion for good music, classic Western films, great meals, and assisting friends, family, and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by both parents and great-grandson Storm Bradley Permetter.
In addition to Patty, he is survived by one brother Dennis (Jeanne) Neikes, daughter Molly Neikes (Brad Trujillo), sons Daniel Neikes and Zachary (Kellyn) Gregory. The joys of his life were his grandchildren Taylor Permetter, Raegan Permetter, Lexi Neikes, Noah Gregory, Everett Gregory, and Ellis Gregory and two great-grandchildren Kuba Permetter and Kehlani Permetter.
The family kindly requests that, in place of flowers or services, you consider planting a tree in his memory. A celebration of life will be organized at a future date, which is yet to be determined.
