Danny Monroe Obituary

Danny Monroe was born on February 25, 1947, to Knox J Monroe and Irene Mae (Martin) Monroe in Waldron, Arkansas and departed this life on April 25, 2024.

He grew up and attended public school in Waldron until 8th grade when the family moved to Del City, Oklahoma. He graduated from Del City High School in1965.   One fateful night in summer of ‘64, he was out with his friends and saw a girl in a car with her sister and another friend. They pulled over and met at a drive in to have a coke together. That started a beautiful relationship that would last 60 years. They were sweethearts in high school, and he married that girl (Kathleen) on August 27, 1966. We went on to have a daughter and son, who we both decided were the best gifts we ever gave each other. He was a very proud Teamster Member and worked for Graves Truck Line from 1966 until they closed in 1989. He then went to work for ABF freight lines till he retired in 1995. He then had the time to pursue his favorite hobby of scouring the area for old cars, particularly Mustangs from the 60’s. Usually with our daughter or son or both riding shotgun and spotting for him. He was an avid hunter. Elk hunting in Colorado was his favorite. He also loved duck and pheasant hunting in Kansas and of course, deer hunting in Oklahoma and Arkansas. His hunting buddies are among his best friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Knox and Irene Monroe; granddaughter Shelby Suzanne Cross; sisters Barbara Stringer and Suzanne (Suzy) Richardson. He is survived by wife Kathleen, brother Larry of Harvey, Arkansas, daughter Kelley Dianne Mullican and husband Steve of Shawnee Oklahoma, son Daniel Cory Monroe and wife Jimmie of McLoud Oklahoma; six grandsons Jarrid Knox Monroe, Daniel Porter Monroe and wife Taylor, Gunner Cole Monroe, Cory James Monroe, Trevor Don Cross and Tyler Shaun Cross, and their father, Larry Cross; great granddaughter Madilyn Marie Monroe. Special nephews Mark Stringer of Ft Smith, Arkansas and Cody Richardson of Midwest city Oklahoma and special persons Krista Cottrell of Choctaw, Paul Wiggins of Harvey, Arkansas and decades long friends Danny and Dorothy Knott. A special thanks to our daughter in law, Jimmie Monroe, who has been like a rock for us. I would like to thank the hospice nurses Kim, Anna, Veronica and Daisy. You were our angels sent to guide us through this. Your wings are waiting for you in heaven.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers we ask that you can make a donation to the Hospice Services in your area.
