Daphene Malvine Woods (Miller)
August 2, 1933 – November 1, 2024
Daphene Malvine Woods (Miller) passed away peacefully on November 1, 2024, at Prague Hospital in Prague, Oklahoma, at the age of 91. She was born in Bray Oklahoma on August 2, 1933 to Pearl Olene Miller and James McKortus Miller. She graduated from Bray High School in May 1951 and soon after met the love of her life, Roy Buddy Woods. They married on August 10, 1951, and together built a life rooted in love, family, and community.
Daphene and Roy established homes in Bray, Oklahoma City, Midwest City, and finally settled on their beloved farm in Shawnee, Oklahoma, in 1961. There, they raised their two children, Althea and Roy, and established the Bull of the Woods Angus Farm, a symbol of their shared dedication to ranching and farming.
Daphene’s heart found joy in her roles both at home and in the community. While she held various jobs outside the home, her happiest work was alongside her husband as a farm rancher, guiding and nurturing her family. A devoted mother and community member, Daphene actively participated in the Hagar Home Demonstration Club and served as a 4-H leader at North Rock Creek and Dale schools. She so enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s sports, band, cheer and dance activities. She took great joy in seeing them and hearing about their activities. She also loved to visit with the people in the community providing wonderful spiritual and moral guidance.
Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life. As a dedicated member of the Church of Christ, Daphene attended the Thompson Heights and Dale Church of Christ, sharing her love for the community and her devotion to God.
An accomplished seamstress, Daphene was known for her remarkable skill in crafting clothing for family members and friends. Her creative spirit was evident in her beautifully embroidered pillowcases, table linens, and clothing alterations, all of which she gifted with love. Daphene enjoyed shopping for herself and family, organizing and cooking holiday meals, and celebrating birthdays. Her favorite color was purple and she loved butterflies. Her hobbies included oil painting, antiquing, and traveling throughout the United States and England with her husband.
Daphene is survived by her daughter, Althea Woods; her son, Roy L. Woods and wife, Pam; grandchildren, Chris Hill and wife, Jenny, Kirk Hill and wife, Cindy, Whitney Lopez (Woods) and husband, Tripp, and Thomas Woods; great-grandchildren, Payton Hill and wife, Patty, Hunter Hill and wife, Allison, Kinsley Hill, Carson Hill, Lucille Lopez and Lillie Lopez; and great-great-grandson, Asher Hill. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Dee Miller, and her sister-in-law, Letha Smith.
