Frances E Burton, a resident of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed away on September 1, 2025 at her home in Shawnee with family at her side. She was 84 years old. Frances was born on November 2, 1940 in Denver, Colorado to John N Appelhans and Mary F (Maynard) Appelhans.
Frances grew up in Colorado and graduated from high school in Denver. Shortly after graduation Frances engaged in college business courses. Frances spent most of her adult life working as an office field clerk for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. She was married first to Norman C Lynch and then later to Ponie Joe "PJ" Burton in Logan County Oklahoma. They remained married for over 50 years until PJ passed away.
Frances was an avid animal lover, she loved reading books, and bird watching. Most of all, Frances was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother and loved being with her family.
She was preceded in death by both her father and mother, John and Mary Appelhans; her husband, PJ Burton; two daughters, Danette Decker and Shawn Burton; and a sister, Mary Catrine.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory a granddaughter, Kayci Roberts of Kingston, by a sister, Clara Benigno, a grandchild, Kayci Roberts, 3 great grandchildren, Jacob, Dustin, and Joshua Roberts; and three great great grandchildren, Nathan, Alex and Westin Roberts; as well as other extended family and many good friends.
Following cremation, the family will have a private memorial service at a later date. McElyea and Owens Funeral Group of Shawnee is handling arrangements.
