Gary Lynn Dennington was born on September 18, 1941 in Seminole, OK and passed away on December 6, 2025 at his home in Shawnee. Gary graduated from Bowlegs High School in Bowlegs, OK in 1959. Shortly after his graduation he married Rachel Waller on May 14,1959. He attended Oklahoma State Tech in Okmulgee. He sharpened his skillset by studying drafting. After his graduation from Okmulgee Tech, he began working at Texas Instruments for the next 19 years. Finally, he started working at Allen-Bradley (later it became TDK in Shawnee, Oklahoma) where he retired after 30 years of experience. He and his wife Rachel have 3 daughters.
Gary enjoyed volunteering for the International Youth Rodeo Finals held in Shawnee every summer for approximately 15 Years. He maintained a large garden for years and supplied his neighbors and family with lots of vegetables. He also loved raising cattle and poultry; they were a real passion in his life. Another of his favorite things to do was to watch his grandchildren and great grandchildren play.
Gary had a great friend in Hugh McClain and they had weekly lunches for many years. Gary loved watching sports. He first played in high school and then went on to coaching his middle daughter's basketball teams.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Rose Ellen King Dennington; his father, Homer Travis Dennington; 2 brothers and 2 sisters;1 grandson, Rhett Clark; and one great granddaughter, Naomi Akins.
He is survived by his wife Rachel of 66 years; daughters Darla, Debbie and son in law Tim Akins, Sheri and son-in-law Mark Chaney; 8 grandchildren Brandi Robertson, Chelsea Clark, Zack Clark, Laura Akins, Andrew Akins, Megan Wilson, Tipton Stafford, Clayton Stafford; 21 great grandchildren.
Viewing will be held at McElyea & Owens Funeral Group, 5106 N Harrison in Shawnee on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 from 4pm to 7pm.
Funeral service is scheduled for 1:00pm on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at The First Baptist Church in Meeker with Pastor Joe Jones officiating.
A committal service will be held immediately following the funeral at New Hope Cemetery in Meeker. All services are under the direction of McElyea & Owens Funeral Group of Shawnee.
Pallbearers are Kota McDonald, Charles Robertson, Andrew Akins, Zack Clark, Tipton Stafford, Clayton Stafford, and Rhett Robertson. Honorary bearer is Hugh McClain.
