James Grover Armitage of Meeker, Oklahoma, passed away on October 12, 2023, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, at the age of 82.
James Grover was born on July 22, 1941, in Rossville, Oklahoma. He was the son of Gay "Shorty" and Edith (Nicely) Armitage. He grew up in Aydelotte, Oklahoma, attending Meeker Public Schools, graduating in 1959 from Meeker High School. Following his education, he began working for Davis Hatchery. On November of 1963, He entered the United States Army. He married Helen LaHue on May 27, 1965, in Shawnee and they made their home in Aydelotte. In 1968, he joined the Shawnee Fire Department retiring in June 1988 as Battalion Chief. In 1979 they moved to Meeker, Oklahoma. After he retired from the fire department, he began working for Eaton, retiring in 2010. He enjoyed time with friends, hunting, fishing, and going to the casino. On August 6, 2023, Helen preceded him in death.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Bobby Ray Armitage.
He is survived by his daughter, Tiffany Gear and husband Robert of Shawnee; one son, Scott Armitage and wife Shirica of Meeker; one sister-in-law, Norma Armitage of Meeker; one sister-in-law, Jeannie Millard and husband Dennis of Broken Arrow; one brother-in-law, Joe Lahue and wife Ann of Shawnee; six grandchildren, Ryan and Christinia Jack, Logan Gear, Kellie Armitage, Kaitlyn Armitage, Kyle and Taylor Howard, Bridgette and Micah Sewell; six great grandchildren; nieces, Cheryl, and Terrie, and one nephew David.
