James Hatch Obituary

Known by all who loved him as the Life of the Party, James (Jim) Scott Hatch, 70, advanced to the place where the good times never end June 4, 2023. Born on December 31, 1952 in De Moines, Iowa to James Henry and Dorothy Louise Hatch, Jim spent most of his growing up and adult years creating good memories with the many people he loved in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

After Shawnee High School, Jim graduated from Oklahoma State University where he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and made many lifelong friends. He fell madly in love with Billye Sue Currens at OSU, and they married August 3, 1974. Jim grew up in the steel industry and became President and Owner of Shawnee Steel until his retirement in 2018.

When Jim walked into the room, the fun began! His smile and laugh were contagious to all. He especially loved talking politics and current events, and was rumored to have a strong opinion or two.

Jim's love and devotion for his wife and their three sons was an inspiration to all who knew them. He led his family through tremendous grief when they lost his beloved son James Andrew (Andy) Hatch in 2020. Andy shared Jim's quick wit, which will be greatly missed.

Jim had many wonderful times at Lake Eufaula with family and friends over the years. After he and Billye Sue retired, they enjoyed traveling overseas, most recently in southeast Asia. He loved cheering on the OSU Cowboys, and enjoyed golfing and lake adventures with his friends.

Deeply missing the joy and love Jim brought to their lives are his wife, Billye Sue Hatch; sons Adam (Sean) Coté-Hatch of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Spencer (Rachel) Hatch of Shawnee; granddaughter Olivia Sue Coté-Hatch of Bartlesville; granddaughters Georgia, Wesley, Hazel, and grandson Wade Hatch of Shawnee; sister Carol (Curtis) Craig of Tulsa, Oklahoma; brother Steven (Lucy) Hatch of Gainesville, Georgia; and sister-in-law Julie (Roddie) Smith, Katy, Texas.

In addition to his son Andy, Jim was preceded in death by his parents James Henry and Dorothy Louise Hatch.
