Loretta Jean Hamilton, a resident of Bristow, Oklahoma passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025 at her home in Bristow with her family at her side. She was 98 years old. Loretta was born on September 23, 1926 in Portland, Oregon to Lee Bradford Hamilton and Inga Christine (Hval) Hamilton.
Loretta grew up on a farm in the Caldwell, Idaho area. She later moved to California and lived in Eureka, Fresno, and Clear Lake. Loretta finished her high school education and later moved to Oklahoma in 1963. She lived in Muskogee and attended Bacone College where she studied nursing and in 1972 received her LPN certificate. She worked as a nurse in several nursing homes and for a brief period of time worked at the hospital as well.
Loretta was an artist, and was a remarkable talent with painting and drawing in acrylics, with oil, and with watercolors. She had quite the talent with music as well and taught herself to play by ear the mandolin, guitar, ukulele, the organ, and the harmonica, as well as a beautiful singing voice. Most of all, Loretta was a loving daughter, sister, mother, wife, and grandmother and she will be dearly missed by her family and numerous people who knew and loved her.
Loretta met the love of her life, Donald Eugene Hamilton and they were married on June 15, 1999 in Mounds, Oklahoma. They remained happily married for approximately 15 years until Donald's death in 2014.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father; her 5 siblings, Merlin, Gladys, Viola, Paul, and Lela; a son Jerry Moore; and stepson Danny Kirkwood.
Loretta is survived by 3 daughters, Lori Fisher of Bristow, Donna Jean Cooper and husband Joe of Cheney, KS, and Lela Christine Wright and husband Darrell Gilbert of Sand Springs and; a son, Jim Wagenman of Twin Falls, ID and stepchildren Terry Kirkwood and LInda Lindsey ; by 13 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; special friends, Darrell and Darlene Ward of Big Cabin, OK and by other extended family and many good friends.
Following cremation, a Celebration of Life service will be held on February 16, 2025 at the home of Lori Fisher, in Bristow, OK, and Pastor James Landelius will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of McElyea & Owens Funeral Group in Shawnee.
