Mary McGee

Mary Ann (Balentine) McGee, a longtime resident of Shawnee, passed away at home with family at her side on Friday, September 12, 2025 at the age of 85. Mary was born on February 4, 1940 in Okemah, Oklahoma to Arvil Balentine and Alpha (Stroud) Balentine.

Mary grew up near Okemah, Oklahoma and graduated from Okemah High School. She met and married the love of her life, Robert Lee McGee in Okemah, Oklahoma. She remained happily married until Robert's death on December 19, 2003. Mary was the owner of a restaurant in Shawnee operating as Mary's Kitchen on Harrison Street. She last worked as a bookkeeper and manager of Ken Del Manor Apartments in Shawnee before her retirement. She was a member of Shawnee Business and Professional Womens Club (BPW) for numerous years and was a member of Living Word Church of Shawnee. Mary was an avid reader and an excellent cook. Most importantly, Mary was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be affectionately remembered by the many people who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father; three brothers, James Balentine, Arvil Balentine Jr., and Arlis Balentine; and two sisters, Lora and Geraldine.

She is survived by two sons, Robert McGee and wife Rebecca of Conroe, Texas and Richard McGee and wife Leisa of Shawnee; a sister, Janie Lovett of Alaska; two grandchildren, Ashley and husband Blake Mutz, Eric McGee and wife Rachel; one great grandchild, Alanys Mutz all from Shawnee.
Viewing for Mary will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at McElyea & Owens Funeral Group at 5106 N. Harrison in Shawnee from 2:30pm until 8:00pm.
A funeral will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025 at 2:00pm at Living Word Church in Shawnee with Pastor Cliff Briscoe officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of McElyea & Owens Funeral Group.

Pallbearers will be Robert McGee, Richard McGee, Eric McGee, Blake Mutz, Donald Nichols and Bobby Reese. Honorary Pallbearers are John Terry and Randy Gregory.
