Paul Floyd Lyon

Paul Floyd Lyon, a resident of Tecumseh, Oklahoma passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024 in Shawnee at the age of 77. Paul was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma on November 2, 1946 to Paul Carson Lyon and Christine (Carter) Lyon.

Paul grew up in the Shawnee/Tecumseh area and attended Bethel High School where he played baseball and basketball before graduating. Paul worked for Scrivner Foods as a warehouseman for approximately 30 years before the company was sold and later operated as Fleming Foods. Paul was a longtime Shawnee/Tecumseh area resident, but he did live several years in Broken Arrow and Tulsa, before returning to Shawnee. Paul married the love of his life, Doris Faye Montgomery in Shawnee, OK on June 25, 1966. They remained happily married for 56 years until Doris' passing in 2022. Most of all, he was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather and he will be sorely missed by his family and many good friends.

Paul was a longtime supporter of Little League baseball in Shawnee, and served as that organization as its President for a term. He was an avid fan of OU sports and was a season ticket holder for OU football. Paul was also a big fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He always supported Bethel athletic teams, Oklahoma Baptist University Bison teams, and the University of Oklahoma teams.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Lyon; both his father and mother; a brother, William "Bill" Lyon, sister, Mary Pinkston; and granddaughter, Chloe Barrick.

Paul is survived by his son, Greg Lyon of Tecumseh; a daughter, Michelle Williams and husband Billy of Warner; a sister, Sandra Burton; by 4 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren; as well as a host of other extended family and grandchildren; and many good friends.

Viewing for Paul will be held on Thursday, from noon until 7pm at McElyea & Owens Funeral Group, 5106 N. Harrison in Shawnee.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024 at 1:00pm at Liberty Baptist Church in Shawnee with Rev. Phil Thompson officiating. Interment will follow the service at Garden Grove Cemetery under the direction of McElyea & Owens Funeral Group of Shawnee.

Pallbearers will be Jesse Lyon, Cooper Barrick, Chandler Barrick, Taylor Spears, Chris Spears, and Greg Lyon.
