Sherry Covel-Rice Obituary

Sherry Lynn (Eastep) Covel-Rice, a resident of Moore, OK passed away on Thursday March 5, 2026 in Moore, OK with family at her side at the age of 69. Sherry was born on July 16, 1956 in Anthony, Kansas to Jack Eastep and LoRee Louise (Whaley) Eastep.

Sherry graduated from Choctaw High School in 1974. She played the flute in the marching band and was Band Queen. Sherry began her working career at Macklenburg Duncan, and later worked for over 20+ years in multiple departments within the GM Assembly plant in Oklahoma City before retiring. She also held an Oklahoma Real Estate License for several years. Sherry married her husband, Vernon Lee Rice on February 22, 1992 in Moore, Oklahoma. Sherry loved to travel. She has traveled to 8 foreign countries and 45 states in the US as well as visiting over 70 Hard Rock Cafes during her many outings. Sherry was a master quilter, a gifted crafter, and loved listening to music. She was her happiest digging in her flower gardens or hanging out with the kids. Sherry was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be missed by all her family and many friends.

She is survived by her husband, Vernon Rice of Moore; her parents, Jack & LoRee Louise (Whaley) Eastep of Choctaw OK; 2 Daughters, Trenna Covel Lay of Moore, Deana Covel Whitney and husband Donald Whitney of Bedford, TX; Step-daughters, Amber Rice and Karrie Rice Grillo of Moore; 11 Grandchildren, Kelsey Rice, Sydney Rice and husband Josh Laurent, Kassandra Grillo and partner Caleb McMillin, Neila Grillo and partner Sam Horne, Raymond Allen Grillo, Ashlyn Lay, Avery Vanat, Nathen Grillo, Andrea Lay of Moore, Alexander and Nora Dusti Whitney of Bedford, Texas; four great grandchildren, Roger, Henry, Luis, and Adien of Moore. Sherry made each of these grandchildren and great grandchildren their own handmade blanket or quilt; brothers, David and wife Debbie Eastep of Choctaw, Jay and wife Tiffany Eastep of Harrah; multiple nieces, nephews, cousins, and many good friends.

In recent years, Sherry and Vernon continued their adventures closer to home playing Pokemon Go, exploring local parks, landmarks, and communities together, turning everyday outings into shared adventures.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on 10am to 12pm on Saturday, March 28 at the Metro Event Center in Moore, Oklahoma.

Memorial donations may be made in Sherry's honor to Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence, Donor's Choose or a local animal rescue shelter.
