Wayman Randolph Deathrage, a resident of Shawnee, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at his home in Shawnee at the age of 84. Wayman was born in rural Ada, Oklahoma on November 25, 1939 to Sherman Randolph Deathrage and Essie Irene (Bray) Deathrage.
Wayman grew up in central Oklahoma and attended school at Shawnee High School where he graduated. Wayman did experience some college and had a bright mind for learning. Following high school, Wayman met his first wife, Elizabeth Campbell and from that marriage 4 children were born. His second wife, Pat had an untimely death after a few years of marriage. Wayman served in the US Army from 1967-1969 before receiving his honorable discharge. After the Army, Wayman pursued a career in carpentry. Wayman had a great memory and was an avid reader as well as being an talented artist in carving and painting. He was also a longtime gun enthusiast and was a member of the National Rifle Association. Most of all, Wayman was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather and he loved his family. And, he will be missed by the many who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father; his wife, Pat Deathrage; an ex-wife, Elizabeth Hedge; one grandson; and by four brothers and three sisters.
Wayman is survived by a daughter, Kathy Joslin and husband Jimmy of Shawnee; three sons, Randy Deathrage and wife Tammy of Shawnee, Greg Deathrage and Timmy Deathrage, both of Shawnee; twelve grandchildren and several great grandchildren; by other extended family and many good friends.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date and his remains will be buried in Box X Cemetery near Galey, Oklahoma. Arrangements were entrusted to McElyea & Owens Funeral Group of Shawnee.
