Wendell Karl Rotter, age 89, of Pequannock, NJ and Pompey, NY passed away on September 6, 2025.
Born in 1935 in Vaux Hall, Union Township, New Jersey, Wendell was the son of Wendel Jr. and Elizabeth (Stolz) Rotter. He graduated from Union High School.
A prodigious musical talent, Wendell was an accomplished accordionist who delighted audiences for many years as a member of the Farmer Boys square dance band, bringing joy to local dances throughout the region. His passion for music led him to open his own music studio in Clark, NJ, after moving there in 1960, where he taught accordion to countless students.
In 1966, Wendell attended computer programming school. Upon graduation, he worked in the field of data processing. In 1970, he began his career at General Foods Corporation, where he worked diligently until his retirement in 1995.
Wendell and his beloved wife Carol (Fekete) Rotter made their home in Pequannock, NJ beginning in 1968. After Carol’s passing in 1996, Wendell relocated to Pompey, NY, a farming community in Central NY, where he devoted himself to collecting and restoring antique John Deere form tractors – a pursuit that brought him much fulfillment. His love for music endured; he maintained a keen interest in theater pipe organs and performed every year at the New York State Fair, home to the historic 1925 Wurlitzer organ.
In later years, as his health declined, Wendell returned to Pequannock to be close to his son and daughter-in-law and granddaughter in 2015.
Wendell was predeceased by his wife, Carol Fekete Rotter, in 1996, his companion of 15 years Marie Pierce, in 2014, his sister Betty Kitson and sister-in-law Ann Lischak.
He is survived by his son Wendell, daughter-in-law Jennifer and granddaughter Brielle. Wendell is also lovingly remembered by his nieces Kim De Saye and Carolann Pourciau, as well as his sisters-in-laws daughters, Alexcis Franchino and Deborah Heizmann.
Wendell’s legacy endures in the music he made, the knowledge he shared, and the family who will keep his memory alive.
