William Garner Obituary
William Paul "Wild Bill" Garner, a resident of the Meeker area, passed away on May 3, 2023 in Shawnee at the age of 79. Bill was born on May 14, 1943 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Paul Dayton Garner and Virginia Mae (Pinkston) Garner Bonner.
At an early age, Bill and his family moved from Shawnee to Carlsbad, New Mexico where he lived for several years before returning to Oklahoma. Bill graduated from Shawnee High School and went on to college to Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX where he earned his degree in animal husbandry. After his school experience he joined the U.S. Marine Corps where he served in the Viet Nam War. Bill was wounded in Viet Nam and returned home before receiving his discharge from the Marine Corp.
Bill loved all activities that benefited veterans. And his passion was riding motorcycles, where he often rode to motorcycle rallies. Bill had a passion for fishing, loved watching college football games, and rarely if ever missed a Nascar race. Bill loved all occasions where he was with his family. He was a loving son, brother, husband and father. Bill married Linda Lee in Miami, Oklahoma on January 31, 2000 and they remained married for 23 years until his death.
Bill is preceded in death by his mother and father, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
He is survived by his wife, Linda of the home in Meeker; by two daughters, Susan Baker and husband Larry of Longview, TX, and Sandi West and children William and Audrey of Longview, TX; by two sons, John Garner and wife Anita of Frisco, TX and Jim Garner and wife Leah of Baltimore, MD; by a sister, Virginia Chesser of Shawnee; and a brother Lavelle Garner and wife Gege of Little Elm, TX; as well as 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

A funeral service for Bill will be held at McElyea & Owens Funeral Group on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at 2:00pm. Services are under the direction of McElyea & Owens Funeral Group of Shawnee.
