Zona Jean (Olson) Cockrell

Zona Jean (Olson) Cockrell, a resident of Shawnee, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023 in Shawnee, Oklahoma at the age of 81. Zona was born on May 2, 1942 in Liberal, Kansas to Arthur Olson and Vera (Hecox) Cargill. Zona grew up in the Liberal, Kansas and Hooker, Oklahoma area and attended public schools in both cities.

Zona was married to Charles Cockrell in 1979 in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. They were married for 33 years until Charles death on December 14, 2012. Zona worked in several capacities as a chef and/or cook in the restaurant business.

Zona had great respect and love for veteran's organizations like American Legion and Disabled American Veterans, where she remained actively supportive. Her favorite veterans cause was Veteran's Park of Shawnee. The family has designated Veteran's Park of Shawnee as appropriate for memorial contributions.

Zona is survived by her daughter, Anna Matthews and husband Kelly, 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Services are under the direction of McElyea & Owens Funeral Group of Shawnee.
